Baseball Radio 2009-10 Episode 6

Welcome to the weekly wrap up of all MLB and Australian Baseball news.

First off this week the boys spoke with Victorian Aces Coach Phil Dale live from Prestige Jayco Park in Waurn Ponds, Geelong. Victoria are hosting their opening series against the Barbagello Perth Heat.

Next up the boys spoke with NSW Patriots Coach Glen Williams live from Baseball Olympic Park in Blacktown. The Patriots are hosting their opening series against the Qld Rams.

The boys then played the highlight reel of the MLB World Series with the New York Yankees wrapping up their 27th World Series win.

Next up the boys caught up with Gary McCoy. Gary is the Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Australian Baseball team and is also on the Florida Marlins AAA team coaching staff. Gary gave a rundown on what his position is and he discussed some of the players he has been working with. Next up the boys spoke with the South Australian ABL GM, Pat Kelly. Pat announced the this year that SA will be playing their games at Norwood Oval. Norwood Oval is undergoing an extensive makeover to make sure it complies with ABL standard. Being an ex Yankee the boys also discussed the outcome of the World Series.

Rounding of the show the boys caught up live with the Barbagello Perth Heat GM, Shane Tonkin, direct from the action at Geelong. Shane gave a quick run down on how the Perth Heat pre-season progress has been going.

First off this week the boys discussed the upcoming Claxton Shield season. The season kicks off on friday the 6th of Nov with both New South Wales and Victoria hosting season opening games.

Next up the boys caught up with Brett Hidson. Brett has just been appointed as the new General Manager of Baseball Victoria. Brett will be taking up the new role in Jan. Brett comes to BV from from his position as Manager of the AIS Cycling Program that is based in South Australia.

The boys also gave a rundown of the season performances of the Aussies in the Major and Minor Leagues.

Rounding off the show the boys caught up with Secretary General of the International Baseball Federation Mr John Ostermeyer. John discussed with the boys what has been happening in the International arena, including the recent decision to knock back Baseball’s re-entry to rejoin the Olympics.

Mark is the chairman of the newly formed Australian Baseball League which, in association with Major League Baseball, will be running the revamped Claxton Shield Tournament. Mark gave an update on the makeup of the new league and how they perceive it will be run.

Also James Watson caught up with Pete Moylan who recently returned home from his season with the Atlanta Braves.Pete was at the local launch party of the upcoming MLB World Series playoffs and discussed his season with the Braves.

Baseball Radio 2009-10 Episode 1

Welcome to the weekly wrap up of all MLB and Australian Baseball news.

First off the boys gave a quick wrap of what has been happening in the baseball world. The boys also announced the shows newest supporter Leading Edge Sports and also welcomed back A1 Plaques.

The shows first interview of the night was with Australian Baseball Coach Jon Deeble. Jon had just returned from the World Baseball Cup that was held in Europe. Australia achieved our highest ever finish, which was 5th. Jon gave a rundown of all the action from the tournament.

Next up the boys discussed the restructure of the Baseball Victoria competition and the fact that Div 1 baseball club Waverley has also entered 4 teams in the Div 2 competition.

Rounding of the show the boys talked with Christine Turner. Christine has just recently taken on the role as Assistant General Manager of the Victorian team that will be competing in this years Claxton Shield Competition. This competition will be a new joint venture between the ABL and MLB organizations. As part of the restructure MLB has recruited personnel with American Minor League experience to help with the game marketing aspect of the new competition.

Christine held the position of Community Relations & Special Events Manager for the Tri City Valley Cats and is committed to helping the new national league set up the marketing side of the competition.

Baseball Radio Episode 104

First up the boys discussed in detail the completed Baseball Victoria round of Grand Finals that were played on Super Saturday.

Next the boys caught up with James Watson to discuss all things Major League including James thoughts on the WBC.

Rounding off the show the boys caught up with Phil Dale. Phil is the head coach of the Waverley Wildcats who last weekend won the Baseball Victoria Division 1 Grand Final. Phil gave a rundown of Waverley leadup games as well as the Grand Final.

On closing the show the boys mentioned that this was the last Friday night broadcast for this season and that they hope to be back to start the new season in October. In the meantime they encourage all to keep up with the happenings of all things to do with Aussie baseball by keeping in touch thru the Baseball Radio National Forum

Baseball Radio Episode 101

Welcome to the weekly wrap up of all MLB and Australian Baseball news.

First off the boys played their Bowens interview of the week that they had recorded earlier in the day with Australian Coach Jon Deeble. The boys spoke with Jon shortly after the WBC warmup game against the Milwaukee Brewers. Jon gave a run down on what has been happening with the team since the team arrived in Arizona. You can keep up with whats happening in the Aussie camp as Jon has been gracious to keep posting entries in the Baseball Radio Forum under the title “Deebs WBC Diaries” at  Baseball Radio National Forum

Next up the boys caught up with recent Oakland Athletics signing, Oliver Box. Oliver is currently a catcher for the Werribee Giants and he mentioned that he signed the contract on his 18th birthday. Signed as a free agent, Oliver will be heading over to the States in early April to start his professional career.

Rounding of the show the boys announced the winner of the 2nd drawing of the Print Factory T-Shirt competition. I’m happy to announce that Rob Printz of the Pakenham Pumas is the winner. Rob is the President of the Pakenham Pumas and speaking on the radio he mentioned that this is a great thing for his club. The club has had its struggles over the past few years but now is on the recovery road with good junior numbers now coming on board. Rob mentioned that T-Shirts will put to good use and they will go to the their T-Ball competition that will be kicking of this year.
