Baseball Radio Episode 92

Welcome to the weekly wrap up of all MLB and Australian Baseball news.

First off the boys caught up with the Victorian Claxton Shield coach Phil Dale. Phil discussed the Victorian roster that has been selected for the “showcase” round that is being played at Bankstown, NSW from the 2nd to the 7th of Dec. Next up this week the boys spoke with Justin Charles. Justin started in baseball as a junior at the Williamstown Baseball Club before moving onto a career with the Richmond Football Club and following his time there he returned to baseball playing in the ABL from where he was signed by the Florida Marlins. Unfortunately injuries kept Justin from fully realizing his potential in the MLB. Justin gave the boys a rundown of what he is up to nowadays and also discussed in great length and detail his thoughts about the controversies facing Ben Cousins attempted return to football.

Rounding off the show the boys caught up with James Watson live from Adelaide where he is currently with the Aussie Cricket team. James who is fresh back from India discussed the latest signings by the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates recently signed two players that were a part of a reality show in India called the “Million Dollar Arm” which James happened to watch whilst there. James also discussed the latest free agency movements that are being discussed in the MLB.

Baseball Radio Episode 91

Welcome to the weekly wrap up of all MLB and Australian Baseball news.

First off the boys discussed, at great length, an email that was sent into the show by listener Greasa. The email centered around the subject of stealing when your team is 10 runs or more up. The boys gave their respective views on the subject and have asked listeners for their thoughts. You can check out the Baseball Radio National forum for the latest views of the forum members.

Next up this week the boys spoke the Coach of the Essendon Bombers, Russ Spear. Essendon are currently sitting at the top of the Victorian Div 1 ladder with a 9-1 record. Russ also mentioned that he will be making himself available for the Victorian Claxton team but at this stage, due to work commitments, he is not sure in what capacity. All states must submit the final Claxton rosters by the 21st of Nov.

Rounding off the show the boys caught up with ABL legend and current Coach of the Morrabin Panthers, Ron Carothers. The panthers are siting at the top of the Victorian Div 2 ladder with a 7-0 record. Ron is in his 1st year of coaching the Panthers and gave an insight as to who are the players that have helped the team to the position they are now in.

Baseball Radio Episode 90

First off this week the boys caught us up with what is happening with the latest rumours of player movement in the Major Leagues and also discussed the movements of the young Aussies in the Minor Leagues.

Next up this week the boys spoke the ABF’s National Programs Manager Ben Foster. Ben gave us a good inside to the leadup of this years Claxton Shield Competition. Also announced was that the draft of players from the ACT and NT was held today with each state being allowed to “draft” up to 3 players. The 1st round of selections in the draft were Phil Brassington selected by SA, Steve Kent by Vic, Michael Collins by Qld, Sam Thornton by NSW and Nick Kimpton by WA. Further draft selections will be announced shortly. All states must submit their final Claxton squads by the 21st of November.

Rounding off the show the boys gave us a wrap up of the latest action from the Baseball Victoria competitions.

Baseball Radio Episode 89

Welcome to the weekly wrap up of all MLB and Australian Baseball news.

First off this week the boys caughtup with Cheltenham and San Diego Padres player Andrew Gribben. Andrew is currently going thru rehab after having his 2nd surgery of the year to fix a torn labrum. Andrew had his 1st surgery in Jan and unfortunatley several months latter it was revealed that there was still a problem and it would require a 2nd surgery. He is now rehabing back at home and it is hoped that he will be back on the mound for Cheltenham post Xmas.

Next up was the Bowens interview of the week, Alan Middleton. Alan was a Victorian (Morrabin) and Western Australian (Eagles) player in the 1970’s and he  reminised with the boys about the better players of the day.

Next up this week the boys spoke with Ben Pittaway. Ben is the owner of the the Print Factory (screenprinting) in Carrum Downs and he announced that he will be donating sets of T-Shirts to Baseball Radio National to use in an upcoming listener competition. It is envisaged that at the end of December a set of 50 T-Shirts, (2 colour with sponsor on back) will be given away to A club and a further 50 will be given away at the end of February. Baseball Radio Episode 88

First off this week the boys gave a comprehensive wrap of Philadelphia Phillies win in the just finished World Series.

Next up this week the boys caught up with Baseball NSW Claxton Shield manager Shane Barclay. Shane mentioned that NSW has a squad of 38 players in training and still to be added this are their marquee players who are still playing in the US. It was mentioned that NSW will have a younger squad as they are going thru a generational change with the older players such as Brendan Klingman now going into retirement. Graham Castle, Gary White and Barry Holland will again be assistant Patriots coaches.

Rounding of the show the boys caught up with Brad Harman of the Philadelphia Phillies. Brad received his call up to the major leagues on April 20th this year and spent 3 weeks on the roster before finishing off the season with their AA side the Reading Phillies. Brad gave the boys a comprehensive wrap of his season and in doing so also mentioned that he would be making himself available for selection for Victoria in this years Claxton series.

Baseball Radio Episode 87

Welcome to the weekly wrap up of all MLB and Australian Baseball news.

Due to an outside broadcast by station 3ser this weeks program is 30 mins shorter but will be back to its normal hours of 6.30pm-8pm each Friday night.

First off this week the boys caught up with Baseball SA Claxton Shield Manager Ron Harvey. Ron was recently bestowed with the Order of Australia Medal for his services to the sport of baseball. Also holding the title of the SA Director of Coaching, Ron has been working with a Claxton squad of approx 30 players who have been in training since approx July and are looking forward to regaining a playoff spot at the conclusion of this years competition.

Rounding of the show the boys played an interview that James organized with the Colorado Rockies relief pitcher Matt Herges. Prior to making it in the big leagues Matt spent the 98-99 season playing in the ABL with the Adelaide Giants. Since his stint with the ABL Matt has gone on to play for MLB teams, LA Dodgers, Montreal Expos, San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants, Arizona Cardinals, Florida Marlins and has spent the past 2 seasons with the Colorado Rockies.

Baseball Radio Episode 86

First off this week the boys caught up with Baseball WA Events Manager Shane Tonkin. Shane enlightened all with the announcement of the Barbagallo Perth Heat coaching staff for 2008-9. Joining new head coach Don Kyle will be Graeme Lloyd as pitching coach and Greg Jelks as batting Coach. Also announced is that Baseball WA in conjunction with SportFM (91.3) www.sportfm.com.au, will this week be starting a weekly “Talking Baseball” show that will air between 6 and 7.30pm each Wednesday night during the season. Shane also said that Sportfm will be broadcasting the WA Vs Vic Claxton games that will be played in WA early January. Check out the Baseball Radio National website for the links.

Next up the boys caught up with the new coach of the Queensland Rams Peter Yates. Peter also mentioned that his assistants this year will be Bob Nillsson, Peter Vogler and Paul Gonzalez.

Brad is currently playing with the Philadelphia Phillies organization and he has just returned home after finishing the season in Phillies AA team. Brad filled the listeners in with how he thought his season went and his thoughts of what lies ahead.

The latest addition is of course the Baseball Radio National Forum which has had a meteororic rise after only being on-line for the past approx 8 weeks. Phil expanded in detail his thoughts as to how both Waverley and Victoria shape up for the season ahead.

Baseball Radio Episode 83

First off this week the boys let all the listeners know that Baseball Radio will be taking a well earnt break from the air. Baseball Radio has been on the air weekly since the 2nd Oct 2006 and in that time there has been 83 weekly episodes plus 12 live outside broadcasts.

Be assured that Baseball Radio will be back on air for the upcoming summer season.

Kicking off this weeks show the boys did a run of who’s hot of the Aussies in the MLB. Players that got special mention were Grant Balfour (Tampa Bay Rays) and Ryan Rowland-Smith (Seattle Mariners).

Next up the boys replayed an interview of Phil Dale. This interview was originally aired in late 2006. Phil is the Australian team pitching coach and also the aussie based scout of the Atlanta Braves. In breaking news Baseball Radio informed listeners that Phil along with David Clarkson will be coaching the Waverley Wildcats in the BV Div 1 competition in 2008-9.
