Baseball Radio Episode 80

Welcome to the weekly wrapup of all MLB and Australian Baseball news.

First off this week the boys caught up with Craig Kernick who this week is in Darwin. Frita travelled to Darwin to do some fishing and whilst there he has also caught up the the action at the Australian Provincial Championships that are being held at Tracey Village. Frita gave a rundown of the games details to date and this was followed up when he also put Victorian Provincial player Scott Moore on the phone to give his view of the championships to date. Next up the boys caught up with the John Wadsworth. After 11 years as the Aussie based scout for the Arizona Diamondbacks John decided it was time for a change and as of Xmas past is now the Aussie scout for the New York Yankees.

As always, the show included the “Coach’s Rant” and the “Wood Duck” award and also covered all the latest baseball news from home and a wrap of this weeks Major League matches.

Rounding of the show the boys caught up with the David Nilsson. Dave is the current head coach of the Major League Academy in Queensland and he gave an insight into the upcoming 2008 season camp.

First off the boys caught up with Howie Norsetter. Howie is the Australian scout for the Minnesota Twins. He discussed the state of Baseball in Australia at present and pointed out differences between the standard of Aussie players compared to major overseas countries.

Next up the boys caught up with the Greg Evans. Greg is the manager of the Victorian Provincial team that is competing in the Australian Provincial Championships in Darwin that runs from the 24th to 31st of May. First off the boys caught up with Jeff Goodworth. Jeff is the Tournament Director of the Australian Provincial Championships that are being held at Tracey Village in the Northern Territory. The tournament runs from the 24th to the 31st of May. Jeff is also the Northern Territory Developement Co-Ordinator and gave an update on the state of baseball in the top end. Next up the boys gave a run down on the form of all the Aussie players playing in MLB this past week which also included a “who’s hot” and “who’s not” breakdown.

Rounding of the show the boys caught up with the Australian Head coach and Redsox scout Jon Deeble. Jon gave an update of the up and coming pitchers currently throwing in Japan. Jon also gave a run down of whats ahead for the Australian Team in the next 12 months.

Please Note: Normally the show is recorded at 56 bit rate and file size is approx 35meg. Last weeks trial of recording at 32 bit rate, (file size 20meg), seemed to have worked ok for everyone as I received nil complaints. This will now apply for all future podcasts of Baseball Radio National.

First off the boys caught up with Kevin Hooker, from Perth, who is the Australian scout for the Philedelphia Phillies. Kevin discussed how Brad Harman is going now that he has made the Major League roster for the Phillies.

Next up the boys gave a run down on the form of all the Aussie players playing in MLB this past week which also included a “who’s hot” and “who’s not” breakdown.

Rounding of the show the boys spoke with Paul Weichard who recently returned from Taiwan. Paul was a member of the Australian team that recently competed at the Olympic Quailifying tournament in Taiwan and following the tournament he had a short stint playing in Taiwan. Paul announced on the show that he has decided to retire from playing International baseball.

First off the boys caught up with Trevor Jarrett who is the CEO of BJS Player Management. Trevor, the self confessed “Jerry Maguire of Australian Baseball”, spoke at length about how the players managed by BJS are faring in MLB this season. Players discussed included Adam Blackley, Grant Balfour, Chris Snelling, Richard Thompson, Luke Hughes and Trent Oeltjen to name a few.

Next up the boys spoke with Phil Dale. Phil is the Australian scout for the Atlanta Braves and he provided the show with an update on the arm injury of Peter Moylan. Peter was recently put the 15 day disabled list.
