Gary gave a rundown on what his position is and he discussed some of the players he has been working with. First off the boys gave a quick wrap of what has been happening in the baseball world. The boys also announced the shows newest supporter Leading Edge Sports and also welcomed back A1 Plaques.

The shows first interview of the night was with Australian Baseball Coach Jon Deeble. Jon had just returned from the World Baseball Cup that was held in Europe. Australia achieved our highest ever finish, which was 5th. Jon gave a rundown of all the action from the tournament.

Next up the boys discussed the restructure of the Baseball Victoria competition and the fact that Div 1 baseball club Waverley has also entered 4 teams in the Div 2 competition.

Rounding of the show the boys talked with Christine Turner. Christine has just recently taken on the role as Assistant General Manager of the Victorian team that will be competing in this years Claxton Shield Competition. This competition will be a new joint venture between the ABL and MLB organizations. As part of the restructure MLB has recruited personnel with American Minor League experience to help with the game marketing aspect of the new competition.

Christine held the position of Community Relations & Special Events Manager for the Tri City Valley Cats and is committed to helping the new national league set up the marketing side of the competition.

Kicking off the show the boys made special mention that this is a milestone episode. This show is the 100th Friday night show and as the show progressed they made mention of people that have helped us achieve this milestone. The 1st Friday night episode went to air on the 6th of Oct in 2006. The show was the brainchild of James Watson, Craig Kernick and the Baseball Victoria CEO at the time, Steve Walker.

First off the boys played the Bowens interview of the week that they had recorded earlier  with Aussie former Major League player Glen Williams. In 1993 as a 16-year old Glenn signed a lucrative free agent contract with the Atlanta Braves for an estimated 1.3 million Australian dollars. Since that time Glenn has played baseball for the Minor League affiliates of the Atlanta Braves, Toronto Blue Jays and Minnesota Twins. After spending over 10-years in the Minor Leagues Glenn made his Major League debut with the Minnesota Twins during the 2005 season. This is a must listen.

Next up the boys discussed the recent Australia Vs Chinese Taipei and the form of the Aussies heading to the World Baseball Classic.

With frita in Perth for the live broadcast of Game 1 of the Claxton Shield Final, skinny was this week joined in the studio by Ben Bartlett of the Springvale Lions.

First off the boys caught up with the coach of the NSW Patriots, Shane Barclay. Shane gave us a run down of Patriots path to reach the Grand Final and an insight in to the team selections and his thoughts on how he sees the Patriots chances in the 3 game series. In a major surprise Shane announced that Trent Oeltjen was not in the squad for the finals.

Next up the boys caught up with the coach of the Barbagello Perth Heat, Don Kyle. The Heat were clear leaders at the end of the home and away part of the series and a result of this they were automatically seeded into the Grand Final. First off the boys played the Bowens interview of the week that they had with Patriots pitcher Richard Thompson. The boys caught up with Richard during the recent Aces Vs Patriots game. Richard is one of the elite Australian players who have reached the Major League level. Currently a reliever for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Richard was also a member of the Aussie team that picked up an Olympic silver medal.

Next up the boys caught up with the ABF’s Ben Foster. Ben is the National Programs Co-ordinator and he enlightened us with the latest happenings to do with the upcoming Claxton Shield Final in Perth. Rounding off the show the boys played interviews that they had recorded following the naming of the Victorian All-Star 75yr Claxton Shield team. First off the boys caught up with the Ass-Coach of the title winning Victorian U16 team Damian Shanahan. Damian gave a run down of Victoria’s performance at the ABF U16 (AA) Junior Championships that was held in Geelong. Next up was the Bowens interview of the week. This week the boys caught up with Aussie former Major League player Glen Williams. In 1993 as a 16-year old Glenn signed a lucrative free agent contract with the Atlanta Braves for an estimated 1.3 million Australian dollars. Since that time Glenn has played baseball for the Minor League affiliates of the Atlanta Braves, Toronto Blue Jays and Minnesota Twins. After spending over 10-years in the Minor Leagues Glenn made his Major League debut with the Minnesota Twins during the 2005 season.

In this game we saw the NSW Patriots meet Victorian Aces for the deciding game 3 of this weeks series.

Prior to this series the Aces and the Patriots had locked up positions 2 and 3 on the ladder and both teams were using this series to tune up for the Semi Final that will be held next weekend. The Patriots won game 1, the Aces won game 2 and both sides were looking for bragging rights in the leadup to next weekends 3 game playoff series.

First off the boys caught up with Aussie National coach Jon Deeble who is currently in Perth scouting the ABF U18 (AAA) championships and also checking out the Vic Aces Vs Perth Heat Claxton series. Jon let the boys know that a 40 man roster for the WBC will be announced next week. He also spoke in detail about the availability of several players that have put hand up to say they want to play.

Next up this week the boys caught up with Luke Hughes of the Perth Heat. Luke was the player of the series for round 4 of the competition and he played a big part in the win by the Heat over the Aces last night in game 1 of this 3 game series. First off the boys caught up with Victoria’s Travis Blackley. Travis, who is currently a free agent, announced the great news that he has just accepted an offer by the Arizona Diamondbacks to join their 40 man MLB roster. After being released at the end of the season by the Phillies Travis has spent the past 2 months playing in Mexico League. Now back in town playing for the Waverley team Travis had a 7 innings outing last night picking the win on the back of 15 strikeouts. Travis will be also having a couple of outings for the Victorian Aces before heading back to the states for spring training.

Next up this week the boys spoke with the Australian team coach Jon Deeble. John spoke in great detail of the upcoming World Baseball Classic. In Australia’s pool of games will be Cuba, Mexico and South Africa with the winner moving onto round two. With a full compliement of players available Australia have a great chance of advancing thru to the next round.

Phil also mentioned that Scott Wearne has gone on the disabled list after a collision at the home plate that resulted in a dislocated shoulder. He also mentioned that Brett Tamburrino, Daniel Berg, Adam Blackley and Darryn Cassidy have had a great start to the series. After recently being released by the San Diego Padres Justin is currently carrying a calf injury and owing to this is unavailable for the Vic’s in the current Claxton showcase series. Currently in Geneva John discussed the recent meeting where sports including Baseball made a presentation for reinclusion as an Olympic sport. A decision will be announced in Oct 2009. In a wide ranging interview John also spoke of the recent Olympics and how Chinese now have professional League in operation, and also of upcoming tournaments including the 2009 World Baseball Classic.

Further draft selections will be announced shortly. All states must submit their final Claxton squads by the 21st of November.

First off this week the boys caughtup with Cheltenham and San Diego Padres player Andrew Gribben. Andrew is currently going thru rehab after having his 2nd surgery of the year to fix a torn labrum. Andrew had his 1st surgery in Jan and unfortunatley several months latter it was revealed that there was still a problem and it would require a 2nd surgery. He is now rehabing back at home and it is hoped that he will be back on the mound for Cheltenham post Xmas.

Next up was the Bowens interview of the week, Alan Middleton. Alan was a Victorian (Morrabin) and Western Australian (Eagles) player in the 1970’s and he  reminised with the boys about the better players of the day.

Shane mentioned that NSW has a squad of 38 players in training and still to be added this are their marquee players who are still playing in the US. It was mentioned that NSW will have a younger squad as they are going thru a generational change with the older players such as Brendan Klingman now going into retirement. Graham Castle, Gary White and Barry Holland will again be assistant Patriots coaches.

Joining new head coach Don Kyle will be Graeme Lloyd as pitching coach and Greg Jelks as batting Coach. Also announced is that Baseball WA in conjunction with SportFM (91.3) www.sportfm.com.au, will this week be starting a weekly “Talking Baseball” show that will air between 6 and 7.30pm each Wednesday night during the season. Michael announced that Baseball Queensland has appointed Peter Yates as Claxton Shield coach for the 2008/2009 representative season. Peter has had a distinguished playing history for Queensland and Australia and played in the National League for 8 years and also coached in the Japanese Industrial League and was Assistant Coach with the Queensland Rams Senior team in 1999,2003 and 2007.

Greg is the head coach of the Sydney’s Hills North Little League team that defeated Adelaide Southern to win the inaugural Australian Little League Championship. Hills North will now represent Australia in Hong Kong at the Asia Pacific Championships in July.

First off Baseball Radio caught up with Simone Wearne. Simone was an integral member of the Gold Medal winning Victorians who won this years Australian Womens championships that was held recently in Wollongong NSW.

Next up, the boys caught up with Secretary General of the International Baseball Federation Mr John Ostermeyer. In a wide ranging interview John spoke on issues such as Australia’s performance at the recent Olympic Quailifying in Taiwan and the difficulties they faced in not being able to call on players on the MLB rosters, the 2009 World Baseball Classic, the newly released program of the IBAF “I am Baseball” and also the various projects that the IBAF is currently undertaking around the world.

Phil is the coach of the Victorian U14 team that will be playing in the upcoming championships which are being hosted by the Cheltenham Baseball Club in Victoria. The U14 Championship was originally abandoned due to the monsoon weather that swept thru the Lismore, NSW area in January. A groundswell of positive people got together and as a result of their efforts plus the magnificent gesture of Bob Jane T-Marts, the players now have the chance to represent their states in what will be known as the BOB JANE T-MARTS UNDER 14 CHAMPIONSHIPS with state teams from Victoria, Victorian Provincial, NSW, ACT-Territories, SA and WA competing.

This week the boys continued their tour around the states talking to each of the coach’s of the respective grand final champions. This week the caught up with the winners in NSW, Qld and SA.

First off Baseball Radio caught up with Stuart Hanrahan who is the coach of the NSW Major Grade champions Manly Warringah. Manly Warringah defeated Baulkham Hills in the best of 3 final series 2 games to 1. This was the first A grade flag in 31 years for Manly Warringah.

Next up, the boys caught up with Phil Overlack who is coach of the Qld Major Grade champions Indian Baseball Club. The Indians won the best of 3 final series 2 games to 1 and this was their first A Grade premiership in 7 years.

Rounding off the show the boys were able to catch up with Mark Greutner who is the coach of the Port Adelaide Magpies who won the SA Major Grade premiership. The Magpies defeated Glenelg in their best of 3 series 2 games to nil. This was the Magpies first A grade flag in 26 years.

Congratulations are in order to our two intrepid hosts, Frita and Skinny, on both having a great season as respective coach’s, Frita in leading the Bonbeach Bluejays in winning the Victorian Div 2 grand final and Skinny, in leading the Williamstown Wolves in winning the Victorian Div 3 grand final.

On this weeks show Baseball Radio caught up the President of the Williamstown Wolves Michael Collins. Michael stepped the boys thru Wolves season and how they achieved their huge upset win in defeating the Springvale Lions for the Div 3 title.

Next up, the boys caught up with WA’s Shane Tonkin and they discussed the outcome of the grand finals matches in Western Australia. Shane was the winning coach of the Swan Districts Black Ducks who defeated the Wanneroo Giants 2-0 in the best of 3 State League Grand Final.

The boys were also able to catch up with the President of the Blackburn Orioles Bruce Dicker. The Orioles defeated the Malvern Braves 7-6 in the Baseball Victoria Div 1 competition. Bruce also spoke of how Blackburn had also won the BV Club Championship award for the 2nd season running which was highlighted by the fact that the Orioles have 11 teams, of the 11 teams 10 teams competed in their respective final series and of these 5 teams went on to claim their respective Grand Final.

The boys also got the scoop that Travis Blackley was today called up to the majors by the San Francisco Giants. Travis’s father Lance called into the show to give the boys the latest news. Travis is expected to throw against the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday the 23rd (USA Time). This is Travis’s second stint in the majors after earlier playing for the Seattle Mariners with whom he had his first stint in the majors as a 21 year old in 2004.

Geoff was currently in Brisbane where he has been meeting with representatives of the Nippon Professional Baseball League and he announced that an agreement has been signed that will see a series of games between the Japanese and Australian national teams. The matches will be played in Japan in November and it hoped that it will be a yearly event.

This week James and Frita caught up Brett Ward and they discussed the upcoming Major League Academy program that is starting shortly. The program is a yearly exercise and its held in Queensland.

After a hectic season both James and Frita were taking a well earned break over the past few weeks. During this time we have put together a series of best of interviews that we will be playing.
